JOB TITLE: Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead Nurse
REPORTING TO: Head of Clinical Governance & Quality
LOCATION: Remote
SALARY BANDING: £52,000 to £57,000 pro rata
HOURS: 16 hour per week, with the requirement to attend some evening meetings

ROLE OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive IPC Lead Nurse to establish, lead, and assure Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) arrangements across the organisation. You will oversee a multi-site subcontractor provider model and satellite clinic locations.
This is a senior, autonomous role responsible for developing IPC systems from the ground up for a predominantly virtual service, with investigations delivered through subcontracted partner providers. We also operate a small, growing number of face-to-face clinics. The postholder will act as the named IPC Lead, providing expert advice, assurance and leadership to ensure compliance with legislation, national guidance and CQC expectations, while supporting safe, high-quality patient care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Governance
Act as the Infection Prevention and Control Lead for the organisation, providing expert advice to senior leadership, clinicians and operational teams
Develop, implement and maintain a robust IPC governance framework, including policies, procedures, risk assessments and escalation pathways
Contribute to organisational governance arrangements, including Clinical Governance, Risk and Quality meetings
Provide assurance to the Board and senior leaders on IPC risks, incidents and mitigation plans
Policy, Risk & Assurance
Develop and maintain IPC policies and SOPs aligned with UK legislation, national guidance (UKHSA, NHS England) and best practice
Undertake IPC risk assessments for:
Virtual and remote clinical pathways
Face-to-face clinical activity
Premises, equipment and patient flow
Lead IPC incident review, investigation and learning
Support organisational compliance with CQC Regulation 12 (Safe Care and Treatment) and Regulation 17 (Good Governance)
Leadership & Governance
Provide IPC oversight and assurance for all face-to-face clinical settings, including:
Environmental cleanliness
Decontamination processes
PPE use
Waste and linen management
Support readiness for CQC inspection and external assurance
Subcontractor Oversight
Establish IPC assurance processes for subcontracted providers
Review subcontractor IPC documentation and standards
Provide expert advice on IPC risks and escalation where standards are not met
Support contractual and governance teams with IPC-related due diligence
Education & Culture
Develop IPC induction and training content for staff and contractors
Promote a positive IPC culture across the organisation
Act as a source of expert advice and support for clinical and non-clinical teams
Audit & Continuous Improvement
Develop and deliver a proportionate IPC audit programme
Monitor trends, incidents and emerging risks
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance IPC safety and assurance
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Essential
Registered Nurse (NMC)
Experience in Infection Prevention and Control
Experience of working autonomously in a senior clinical or specialist role
Strong knowledge of UK IPC legislation, standards and guidance
Experience of developing policies, procedures and governance frameworks
Ability to assess risk, provide assurance and escalate concerns appropriately
Experience of audit, incident investigation and quality improvement
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
Ability to influence and challenge at senior level
Desirable
Post-registration qualification in Infection Prevention and Control
Experience in virtual, outpatient or community healthcare settings
Experience working with subcontractor or partner organisations
Experience supporting services through CQC inspection
Familiarity with digital or technology-enabled healthcare services
